ITANAGAR, 22 May: Representatives of the Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board (APBB) joined the national-level celebration of the International Biodiversity Day in Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai on Sunday.
APBB Chairman Tayek Goi and its Member Secretary Koj Rinya, besides Shergaon-based Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) chairman Prem Norbu Thungon and other members of the BMC participated in the programme.
The awardees of the India Biodiversity Awards-2021 were also felicitated during the event. The Shergaon BMC was adjudged the best BMC, IBA-2021.
The APBB representatives also participated in a biodiversity exhibition on the theme ‘Biodiversity, nutritional security and human wellbeing’, in which the board showcased the rich medicinal plants diversity and the agri-diversity of the state.
The event was attended by, among others, union EF&CC Minister Bhupender Yadav, MoS for MoEF&CC Ashwini Kumar Choubey, and Tamil Nadu Environment & Forests Minister Thiru Siva V Meyyanathan.
State biodiversity boards and union territory biodiversity councils, biodiversity management committee members from across the country, and representatives of the Indian Business and Biodiversity Initiative attended the celebration.
The International Biodiversity Day is celebrated worldwide on 22 May to raise awareness on the importance of biological resources.
The programme was organised by the union environment, forests & climate change (MoEF&CC) ministry and the National Biodiversity Authority, Chennai.
