Editor,
In Arunachal Pradesh we have 25 districts and each of these districts should have a district tourism officer (DTO) and a tourist information officer (TIO). There are also posts of resident tourism officers in Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Itanagar. In total, we require 30 posts each of DTOs and TIOs. However, in our state, there are shortages of DTOs and TIOs.
We have 17 regular DTOs and 16 TIOs, whereas the requirement is much higher.
In many districts, such as Lower Siang, Leparada, Anjaw, Dibang Valley, Kamle, Pakke-Kessang and Longding, the jobs of DTOs and TIOs are being handled by officials from other departments.
As per the recruitment rule of the department of tourism, there is no provision for direct entry as DTO. If the department fills the 13 DTOs’ vacancies through DPC, there will be vacancies of 13 posts of TIOs.
However, recently, the APPSC advertised just one post of TIO, which is demoralising and also a lost opportunity for the state.
Therefore, I request the chief minister and the minister of tourism for their kind intervention and necessary action for tourism development in the state.
I would also like to appeal to the department to create DTO and TIO posts and give an addendum, increasing the posts.
