Religious animosity needs to curbed

The chilling murder of Kanhaiya Lal at Udaipur in Rajasthan is an act of terror committed in the name of religion. The killers – Gos Mohammad and Riyas Ansari – were arrested hours after the murder. Posing as customers, the two had entered Kanhaiya Lal’s shop yesterday afternoon and shot the attack on the cellphone.
In another video, the killers were seen gloating about the murder and brandishing a cleaver, issuing threats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It has now emerged that the duo had links with some groups from Pakistan. A case has been registered under stringent provisions of UAPA.
The centre has announced that the National Investigation Agency will take over the probe. The killing of Kanhaiya Lal has exposed the danger of radicalism in the Muslim community of India. The duo not only killed him brutally but also had the audacity to film the act and circulate it. They have used the method frequently used by ISIS. This should be treated very seriously.
In recent years the religious tension in the country is growing. This is leading to the radicalization of both Hindu and Muslim communities. The relations between two major communities are its lowest ebb. The country is going through a very difficult time. It is time for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take a lead and try to unite the nation. The growing religious tension has the potential to cause immense damage to India.
