Address the persistent water crisis

Editor,

I would like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned, especially the PHE department, over the prolonged water crisis in Polo Colony, Naharlagun.

It has been more than 12 days that the residents have not received regular water supply, and the authorities are yet to take adequate measures to address the situation.

I am highly disappointed in the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities concerned towards the problem. Naharlagun is the twin capital, and it is unacceptable that a basic need like water supply is not being provided to the residents. Residents are living in unsanitary conditions, with no access to clean water.

Moreover, the inaccessibility of water supply is disproportionately affecting people who cannot afford to buy water tanks. Such people are now left with no option other than to drink unclean water from local sources. This unfortunate situation puts the health and wellbeing of the residents at risk.

What is even more concerning is that, despite this dire situation, there seem to be no emergency measures in place to alleviate the residents’ woes. The water tanker service provided as an alternative measure has been irregular, which is adding to the residents’ problem.

I urge the authorities concerned to take prompt action on this pressing matter. The government must repair the broken pipes as soon as possible to ensure regular water supply to the affected residents. It must also dispatch water tankers regularly to provide immediate relief to the residents.

Furthermore, the government should come up with long-term solutions to address the water crisis in the area. With the twin capital status of Naharlagun, it is only reasonable and justified that water supply is made available to the residents.

I respectfully request the authorities concerned to take necessary actions to address the water crisis in Polo Colony, Naharlagun. It is time that the government took cognisance of the gravity of the situation and ensured prompt action to ease the residents’ suffering. I hope this matter is treated with the urgency it deserves.
