Need to address social media addiction

Editor,

The time has really come to promote the importance of a healthy mind and stress-free body by avoiding addiction to social media.

Social media have had a huge impact on our lives. We become addicted to social media while we don’t even understand how to use social media. A smartphone contains apps like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, etc. Each of them provides various useful information about the universe if we it wisely. However, sadly, they are diverting us from important tasks.

Once you land up on social media like Facebook or Instagram, you will find it hard to get out of their luring world. Unreal or unverified short videos always swallow up the level of our concentration, which is really a matter of concern. It has been seen that many use online short videos to appease their crying babies, which is also a bad habit, as addiction to such things is also unimaginably bad.

Social media also make us miss important tasks and opportunities.

I blame myself for my social media addiction because I didn’t give any space to my vital works. Further, I blame myself for my kids’ social media addiction, as I failed as a parent to guide them.

Hence, I would to like to suggest to everyone to limit the use of social media and use them wisely. Last but not least, spreading awareness about social media addiction among the youths is of equal importance. Awareness programmes should be held at schools and colleges to make students learn how to use social media wisely. The theme should be something like ‘Kitab paro, Facebook Instagram choro’.
