After being named the Nobel Prize winner, Abhijit Banerjee said in an interview that Jawaharlal Nehru University made him realise how important politics was.
Asked about his alma mater being seen as an antinational bastion over the past few years, he said, “I think JNU is seen as a space for treasonous thoughts, rather than a space for legitimate disagreement. I think our entire society is worse off for that.”
He rightly observed that it is extremely important to preserve disagreement.
