PASIGHAT, 28 Jul: Arunachal Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) Chairman Bamang Tago on Sunday visited the Juvenile Observation Home (JOH) and the sub-jail here in East Siang district to take stock of their functioning and assess the provision of amenities and other measures for the inmates.
Tago offered some suggestions, and noted the need for infrastructure upgradation. He also stressed on “reformative approach with a humane touch, as even those in conflict with law are entitled to human dignity.”
At the sub-jail, Tago, accompanied by EAC Sanjay Taram, Sub-Jail OC Kalom Jonkey, and advocate Mary Tatak, visited all the cells and interacted with the Inmates.
He was briefed on the medical checkups, hygienic products and sanitation, besides welfare measures and facilities extended to the eligible inmates.
During his visit to the JOH, Tago, along with ICDS DD Machi Gao and others, inspected the faculties,offices and buildings. Tago interacted with the children and distributed fruits and sweets.
Gao informed Tago that, “under Mission Vatsalaya, the JOH is catering to the needs of all children in conflict with law in the state,” adding that “child-friendly hearing process, vocational training, recreation activities, dietary and all activities for rehabilitation and reintegration are being undertaken.” (DIPRO)
