Pakke Tiger Reserve honours dedicated personnel on Global Tiger Day

SEIJOSA, 29 Jul: Pakke Tiger Reserve (PTR) marked the Global Tiger Day celebrations, by highlighting significant strides in tiger conservation and honored the dedicated personnel contributing to wildlife protection.

During celebrations, ex-gratia payments totaling 7 Lakhs were provided to over 134 victims of Human-Wildlife Conflict, acknowledging their resilience and support for conservation efforts, informed Pakke authorities.

The day commenced with the Pakke-Nameri Bike Rally, an early morning event flagged off by Pem Nobu Thongdok, Commandant of the 3rd IRBN, Seijosa. The rally, which began at the Police Check Gate in Seijosa and traversed through Bali Basti and Delasiri, drew attention to the importance of wildlife conservation across both Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

In the lead-up to Global Tiger Day, the Wildlife Trust of India, in partnership with Pakke Tiger Reserve, conducted an outreach program at Govt. Middle School, A2 Seijosa. The initiative educated students about the vital role of tigers in the ecosystem and distributed pamphlets on tiger conservation, supported by WWF India.

During the formal event, which was attended by N. Tam IFS, PCCF (WL&BD) and CWLW, a detailed presentation on the Annual Camera Trapping Exercise was made and recognized the frontline staff’s exceptional efforts in wildlife protection. Awards were presented in several categories, including Best Camera Trap, Most Sincere Staff, and Best Maintained Anti-Poaching Camp. Notable winners included Longpo Techi for the Best Camera Trap Prize and Niranjan Boro, Shankar Natung, and Longpo Techi for the Sincerest Staff category. Diji Anti-Poaching Camp received the Best Maintained Anti-Poaching Camp award. The PCCF also distributed new uniforms and field kits to the frontline staff, underscoring their essential role in conservation. A pictorial presentation showcased the achievements of the 1st Camera Trap Exercise in Rilloh Wildlife Range.

In his keynote address, N. Tam emphasized that Pakke has the highest number of tigers in Arunachal Pradesh and praised the reserve’s accomplishments. He urged continued conservation efforts and commended the local community’s involvement. The event was also attended Pakke Tiger Reserve DFO Satyaprakash Singh and Seijosa ADC Horki Diyum.

The Biological Park, Itanagar celebrated the Global Tiger Day by organizing a mass social service and plantation drive on the theme ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Nam’ on Monday.

Global Tiger Day is observed every year on 29 July throughout the world.

This day is dedicated to promoting a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and raising public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.
