Disrespect to tricolour

Editor,

As we celebrate our nation’s triumphs and strides, a disturbing video has emerged, threatening the very symbol of our unity and pride – the National Flag of India at Pasighat during the celebration of 78th Independence day. The alarming frequency of our tricolor being allowed to fall while hoisting is a visual representation of the disregard for our nation’s dignity. This is not only a breach of protocol but also a disservice to the values our flag embodies.

The Flag Code of India, 2002, explicitly states that the National Flag should not touch the ground or be allowed to fall. However, this rule is often neglected, and our beloved tricolor is left to flutter in the wind, sometimes even touching the ground. This is unacceptable and demands immediate attention from the concerned authorities.

The National Flag represents the hopes, aspirations, and sacrifices of our nation. Allowing it to fall is a disservice to the freedom fighters who fought for our independence and the brave hearts who protect our nation today. It is our collective responsibility to ensure the flag is treated with the respect and dignity it deserves.

I urge the government to initiate an inquiry into these incidents, identifying the individuals responsible and holding them accountable. The Superintendent of Police, East Siang should be held accountable as well for such a gross negligence from his side. As a head of department he should take utmost care to prevent such incidents. Moreover, I appeal to the citizens to report such instances to the authorities, ensuring collective action against this disrespect.

Let us come together to protect the dignity of our National Flag and uphold the values it represents. We owe it to ourselves, our nation, and future generations to treat our tricolor with the respect it deserves.
