ITANAGAR, 16 Aug: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated across the state with usual patriotic fervour and enthusiasm on 15 August.
In West Siang district, Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini attended the celebration at the government higher secondary school in Aalo, and paid tributes to the nation’s freedom fighters.
He said that the state government has announced 2024 as the ‘Year of the Youth’, “under which several subsidised schemes have been implemented for the state’s youths,” and informed that the government is going to conduct “youth programmes in five basins of Arunachal Pradesh.”
The minister, along with Deputy Commissioner Mamu Hage and Dobom Jini gave away commendation certificates, medals and trophies to the achievers in sports, and to the dedicated officers and officials.
In East Kameng district, Home Minister Mama Natung unfurled the national flag in Seppa, in the presence of MLA Ealing Tallang, DC Sachin Rana, and other notable dignitaries of the district.
The day was celebrated also in Bameng and Chayang Tajo divisions, where the tricolour was hoisted by MLA Kumar Waii and Hayeng Mangfi, respectively.
In Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in Rono Hills, Vice-Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha unfurled the national tricolour, and spoke about the various milestones RGU has accomplished over the past six years.
The programme was attended by Registrar Dr NT Rikam, Finance Officer Prof Otem Padung, deans of various faculties, students, and non-teaching staffers.
In Longding, MLA Thangwang Wangham hoisted the national flag at the headquarters.
In his public address, the MLA informed that a police station will be constructed soon in Pumao circle.
The MLA handed over commendation certificates to the chief of Khonsa village (for selflessly assisting the state monitoring team during the diarrhoea outbreak in Pongchau circle), and to various officials of the education department and the PHED.
Longding DC Bekir Nyorak handed over the appointment letter to the Pongchau HGB.
In Siang district, RD & Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing unfurled the national flag in Boleng, and highlighted the notable achievements of various departments in the district.
The minister launched three new APSTS buses, for the Boleng-Itanagar (alternate days), Boleng-Suple (daily), and Riga-Aalo via Boleng and Pangin (daily) routes.
In Rumgong, MLA Talem Taboh hoisted the national flag, and distributed appointment orders and certificates to the newly appointed HGB and GB.
In Pangin, Kebang ZPM Topi Jerang unfurled the national tricolour, and distributed commendation certificates to the deserving officials and students.
In Leparada district, local MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi hoisted the national flag in Basar, and paid tributes to the freedom fighters.
In Dirang in West Kameng district, local MLA Phurpa Tsering unfurled the national flag. He donated a van for the students of Nyukmadung, and awarded Rs 1 lakh to all the students who have been selected in NEET, 2024.
In Pakke-Kessang district, Health Minister Biyuram Wahge unfurled the national flag in Lemmi, and paid tributes to the freedom fighters.
He pledged that he would ensure complete electrification of all the villages in the district, and urged the people to speak in their local dialects.
In Upper Siang district, MLA Alo Libang unfurled the tricolour in headquarters Yingkiong.
The MLA gave away awards to the CBSE toppers of Classes 12 and 10 on the occasion, and presented certificates of appreciation to the employees of various government departments.
In Tawang district headquarters, local MLA Namgey Tsering hoisted the national flag.
The celebration included the final match of the Independence Day Football Cup tournament at Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso High-altitude Stadiumbetween Monyul Football Club and defending champion D-Club.
D-Club retained the cup for the third consecutive time after defeating Monyul FC with 1-0 goals in a penalty shootout.
In West Kameng district, ZPC Karma Thongdok hoisted the national flag and paid tributes to the freedom fighters. He also highlighted the development and achievements of the district.
The event also included the launch of a ‘Two Bins, Environment Wins’ campaign, under which resident who bring segregated waste (biodegradable and non-biodegradable) will receive 1 kg of rice from the District Urban Development Agency.
Independence Day was celebrated also in Lower Siang district headquarters Likabali, and was attended by, among others, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, who is also the local MLA.
Nyigyor, along with DC Rujjum Rakshap, flagged off vehicles provided for the beneficiaries of the Arunachal Grameen Express Yojana in the district, besides launching a Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.
Meanwhile, the final match of the Independence Day Cup football tournament was won by Liru United FC, after defeating Nari Sports Club.
In Upper Subansiri district, IPR & Printing Minister Nyato Dukam hoisted the national flag in Daporijo.
The minister paid tributes to the freedom fighters, and assured the public that “the state government, in collaboration with the district administration, is committed to transforming Upper Subansiri into a vibrant and progressive district.”
The celebration also included distribution of prizes and commendation certificates to various achievers and winners.
In Papum Pare district, DC Jiken Bomjen hoisted the national flag in Yupia, and paid tributes to the freedom fighters.
The DC presented commendation certificates to government officials of the district for their exemplary dedication to work.
In Lower Subansiri district, Ziro-Hapoli MLA Hage Appa unfurled the national flag, and paid homage to the freedom fighters. He also distributed LPC and land allotment certificates to all government schools in the district, and launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
In Tirap district, Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin unfurled the National tricolour in Khonsa.
Yupia-based Itanagar permanent bench of the Gauhati High Court also celebrated the day. Justice AD Choudhury of the Gauhati High Court hoisted the national flag, in the presence of Justice Kardak Ete and others, in Gauhati.
