DAPORIJO, 28 Aug: Upper Subansiri deputy commissioner Tasso Gambo unveiled the logo, tagline and social media handles for the Nacho Destination project under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 on Wednesday.
The Swadesh Darshan scheme, launched by the tourism ministry in 2014-15, provides financial assistance to state governments and union territories for developing tourism infrastructure at various destinations. In 2022, the scheme was revamped as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) to focus on creating sustainable and responsible tourism destinations with a tourist-centric approach.
Swadesh Darshan 2.0 represents a significant shift, evolving from its predecessor into a comprehensive mission aimed at developing sustainable tourism destinations. The initiative encompasses tourism and allied infrastructure, services, human capital development, destination management and promotion, supported by policy and institutional reforms. It seeks to establish a robust framework for the integrated development
of tourism destinations in collaboration with states, UTs and local governments to promote sustainable tourism across the country.
The strategic objectives of Swadesh Darshan 2.0 include enhancing tourism’s contribution to local economies, creating jobs and self-employment opportunities for local communities, improving the skills of local youth in tourism and hospitality, increasing private sector investment in these sectors, and preserving and enhancing local cultural and natural resources.
Arunachal Pradesh has been selected as a key beneficiary of this initiative, with Nacho identified as a prime destination for development. The ‘Unlock Nacho Expedition’ under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 aims to create an adventure park offering activities for thrill-seekers and nature enthusiasts. Planned features include trekking, zip-lining, river rafting, sky cycling and other adventure sports along the Subansiri River.
The Nacho Destination project has been allocated a budget of Rs. 70 crore, underscoring the government’s commitment to developing world-class tourism infrastructure in the region. (DIPRO)
