Editor,
IG Park in Itanagar is a vital green space that serves as a refuge for residents amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. However, to maintain its integrity and ensure it remains a place of relaxation and recreation, some important considerations need to be addressed.
First, the entry of vehicles into the park should be restricted, except for essential purposes such as construction or emergency diversions. Parks are meant to be tranquil spaces, not thoroughfares. Visitors driving into the park to reach the lawns could instead be encouraged to walk from the park gates. This not only aligns with the purpose of parks but also promotes a healthier lifestyle. Even during state functions, walking from the Kingcup side gate to the podium could set a positive example of physical activity.
Second, there is a need to carefully manage development within the park to avoid over-concretization. IG Park is one of the few green spaces left in the city and acts as the lungs of Itanagar, offering fresh air and a serene environment. While development is important, it is crucial to balance it with the preservation of green spaces. Over time, excessive construction could lead to a reduction in the park’s natural beauty and its ability to serve as a peaceful retreat for the community.
By addressing these issues, we can ensure that IG Park continues to thrive as a cherished space for everyone in Itanagar.
