RONO HILLS, 18 Sep: Geography department of the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) organised a national seminar on ‘Land, People, Economy, and Governance: Models and Practices’ recently.
Prof. Ravindra G. Jaybhaye from Pune-based Savitribai Phule Pune University, shared his perspectives on models, practices, and governance in relation to land, economy, and people during the seminar.
Renowned scholars, researchers and policy makers and students from across the country participated in it. Distinguished speakers contributed their expertise and research findings, offering valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities currently facing the field of Geography.
Around 50 papers were presented by the researchers during the seminar. Research scholar of the Geography department Tashi Lungtan Kee was awarded “Best paper presenter,” while the Geography alumni-sponsored annual Eklavya Award for outstanding geography student of the university went to Toyum Ngomdir for her overall performances.
The second day saw Geography Day celebration with a series of activities at the Geography department of the RGU.
In the inter-college geography quiz competition, Dera Natung Government College team claimed the 1st position. The teams of Binni Yanga Government Women’s College, Lekhi, Naharlagun, and North Lakhimpur College, Lakhimpur (Assam) secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
NIHE Arunachal Pradesh regional head Dr. Devendra Kumar, speaking on the occasion gave new information on “different aspects for the young generation of Geographers,” while, Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, head of the Geography department of the Govt. College in Doimukh spoke on ethnicity and its study at micro level.
The day-long program concluded with volleyball competitions for male and tug of war competitions for female participants and a colorful cultural night.
