ITANAGAR, 15 Dec: Twenty-two sports have been short-listed for the upcoming Arunachal State Games-2025, tentatively scheduled to be held from the second week of January next year.
The short-listed sports disciplines are arm-wrestling, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, football, hockey, karate, kho-kho, judo, taekwondo, table tennis, weightlifting, wushu, wrestling, tug of war, pencak silat, curling, volleyball, and skateboarding.
However, the final announcement will be made after getting the nod from the state government, Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) secretary-general Bamang Tago said.
Tago said that the top eighth ranked athletes/teams will only be eligible to participate in the state games.
On Sunday, the AOA held a meeting of the stakeholders to discuss the upcoming state games, as well as participation in the 38th National Games to be held in Uttarakhand from 28 January to 14 February.
The AOA asked all the state sports associations to gear up for both the Games.
During the meeting, the participants also discussed plans for overall development of sports in the state.
The stakeholders welcomed the state government’s last budget announcement for the sports sector, including the Target Olympic Podium 2028, 2032, 2036 and beyond.
AOA president Taba Tedir asked the state level sports associations to prepare comprehensive plans for their respective sports disciplines for the Target Olympic Podium within a week to enable the AOA to submit them to the state government for consideration.
