ITANAGAR, 15 Dec: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) called for immediate and strict implementation of safety measures in schools in the state, ensuring safety and wellbeing of students.
Expressing shock and grief over the death of three students of St Alphonsa School in Model Village in Naharlagun due to the collapse of an overhead water tank on 14 December morning, the APWWS said that the tragedy underscores the urgent need for safety measures in schools.
“We have repeatedly warned about the deteriorating conditions of schools across the state, particularly in the capital region, where safety protocols are often neglected. From schools without playgrounds to crowded hostels lacking basic safety standards, it is high time that
these issues are addressed,” APWWS president Kani Nada Maling said.
The APWWS president said that it is the responsibility of both school authorities and government agencies to ensure the safety of children.
“We call for immediate action to implement safety measures and conduct thorough checks to prevent further tragedies. Our children deserve to study in a secure environment, free from such hazards,” she said.
The APWWS extended its deepest condolences to the grieving families and wished the injured students full and speedy recovery.
