Create DTO and TIO posts

Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of the government of Arunachal Pradesh, especially the tourism department.

On 2 February, the honourable governor, along with Bollywood actors and other dignitaries, released the calendar of the tourism department. People talk about the scope for tourism in our state all the time, and emphasise on promoting tourism, but nobody pays attention to the shortage of human resource in the tourism department in the districts. Half of the districts are without a regular DTO and TIO. These posts are being held by other officers as additional charge. Overburdened officers cannot give full time and proper attention for the development of tourism in the districts.

For many years, unemployed tourism youths have been submitting memorandums to the officials concerned for the creation of posts of district tourism officers (DTO) and tourist information officers (TIO), but nothing has come of it.

Why is the state government not showing interest in the department which can earn huge revenue and create jobs? Other Northeastern states give full attention to tourism development.

Our leaders and officials concerned should understand that only by observing the Tourism Day, or releasing calendars and speaking about tourism in the media is not going to develop tourism in the real sense in our state.

The posts of DTO and TIO are technical. To serve in these posts, one has to do a special course in tourism. Hence, it is not appropriate to give this post as additional charge to other officers.

Therefore, once again we unemployed tourism youths appeal to the director and the secretary of the tourism department to initiate the process of creation of DTO and TIO posts and advertise them without further delay.
