Editor,
I am writing to bring to the notice of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) the need to give equal importance to all sections in the PGT and TGT English descriptive Paper 2. The APPSC has divided the descriptive Paper 2 syllabus into four sections – reading, grammar, writing and literature – but in the 2018 PGT and TGT English exam, questions were set only from two sections, namely, writing and literature.
As aspirants, we are expected to give equal importance to all sections, but the APPSC’s practice of setting questions from only a few sections creates confusion and uncertainty.
I suggest that the APPSC divides the marks equally among all sections, such as reading (20), grammar (10), writing (20) and literature (50). This pattern is followed in the CBSE exam, and it is essential for teachers to have equal knowledge of all sections to teach students effectively.
I hope that the APPSC will take this suggestion seriously and make the necessary changes to ensure that all the sections are given equal importance.
