Make BPGH great again

Editor,

Through your daily, I would like to highlight the sad situation of Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH) in Pasighat and extend my sincere request to the leaders, officials and stakeholders concerned to take initiatives to bring necessary improvements to the hospital.

Recently, I had to visit one my relatives who was admitted in one of the wards and it was shocking to see how the wards are in a pathetic shape. The walls and ceiling are discoloured due to dampness, which has been facilitating growth of fungus everywhere. The beds, furniture, the windows are all worn out and somehow holding on. The aftermath of gutka and tamul-paan spit are everywhere to be found, starting from the corridors to windows and walls. The scene of the toilet is not even describable. I can confide that it will kill your appetite for a few hours, if not days. One has to commend the strength of the nurses, doctors and staffers working in such an environment every day.

It is to be noted that this very hospital was once known to be an epitome of cleanliness. There was an era when people would often refer to its hygiene and cleanliness with much pride and joy, but somehow that reputation seems to be in question lately. Have we failed ourselves as stakeholders, or has the system failed us in the journey? Whatever it is, we desperately need to sideline the blame game and join hands to fix the puzzle together to make our beloved hospital great again.
