GUWAHATI, 3 Oct: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) is all set to host the Yonex Sunrise World Junior Badminton Championship 2025, a Badminton World Federation (BWF)-sanctioned tournament, at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Amingaon here in Assam from 6 to 19 October.
While informing this, organizing committee member Bamang Tago said that the mega event would mark a historic milestone as it is being hosted in India for the second time and in the Northeast region for the very first time, after the one held in Pune in 2008.
The event will witness participation of around 35 countries in the team championship and 43 countries in the individual championship, making it one of the largest junior badminton events globally, Tago, who is also the secretary-general of the Arunachal State Badminton Association, said.
More than 500 top U-19 shuttlers from across the world will showcase their talent and skills during this fortnight-long competition.
India enters the tournament as the No 2 seeded team in the team championship, reflecting the growing stature of Indian badminton on the global stage.
“It is both a privilege and a great honour to be part of the organising committee of such a world event. I believe the experiences gained here will greatly benefit the growth of badminton in Arunachal Pradesh,” he said.
Tago, on behalf of the executive committee members of the BAI and the people of the Northeast, extended appreciation to BAI president Himanta Biswa Sarma for bringing this world-class event to the region.
He expressed hope that the event would have a tremendous impact not only across the Northeast but on the entire country.
Tago also held discussions with world badminton leaders and experts, focusing on strategies for the development of badminton in Arunachal, with the aim of grooming players to excel at the world stage.
Tago has a distinguished history in badminton administration and leadership. He had earlier served as the manager of the Indian badminton team at several major BWF tournaments, including the All England Open, Japan Open, France Open, Indonesia Open, and Malaysia Open, both at the junior and senior levels, and has been a member of the organising committee of the BWF tournament India Open for 5th consecutive times.
His experience and exposure at global platforms continue to inspire and strengthen badminton development initiatives in Arunachal.
The Arunachal State Badminton Association reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing talent and creating opportunities for young players, drawing inspiration from this historic event being hosted in the Northeast.
