PASIGHAT, 3 Oct: World Tourism Day was celebrated in East Siang district with a series of events under the global theme ‘Tourism and sustainable transformations’, emphasizing eco-friendly and digital growth of the local tourism sector.

The celebrations began with a nature walk-cum-plogging event at Komlighat, integrating the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign by combining fitness with a drive to clean the natural surroundings.

In a key initiative to promote sustainable operations, the Green Squad Team from Pasighat conducted an informative session on ‘zero waste management’ for local homestay owners, hotel entrepreneurs, and resort operators. A complementary workshop on digital marketing was also organized to equip stakeholders with tools to enhance their online presence and reach a wider audience.

Presiding over the events, District Tourism Officer Leena Perme highlighted the district’s significant potential for growth in the tourism sector. She appealed for support and cooperation from all stakeholders, while underlining the importance of adopting waste management and responsible tourism practices.

The day’s festivities concluded with a symbolic trek to Rani Gomsi, an ancient archaeological site near Rani village. The trek aimed to spotlight the historical significance of the site and promote it as a key tourist destination, connecting the region’s rich past with sustainable tourism in the future. (DIPRO)
