NARI, 29 Jan: An awareness programme on the drug menace and women’s empowerment was organised at the Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) here by the Lower Siang district unit of the Galo Youth Organisation on Wednesday.
The programme, which focused on raising awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, the importance of women’s empowerment, and the collective role of society in addressing these challenges, was attended by students, teachers, and invited dignitaries.
Addressing the participants, Arunachal Informer Editor-in-Chief Jumge Pale emphasised on responsible citizenship, the power of informed decision-making, the role of youths in shaping society, and the importance of awareness and education in combating drug abuse and promoting gender equality.
The event was attended by, among others, GHSS Liromoba Principal Liter Bagra Doye, Nari PS OC Abraham Tayeng, CO Kemin Gamlin, and Likabali-based Sober Foundation Rehabilitation Centre managing director Rato Doye.
The speakers shared valuable insights from their respective fields, highlighting preventive measures, legal aspects, rehabilitation efforts, and community-based approaches. They collectively stressed the need for early awareness, parental guidance, youth engagement, and strong community cooperation to curb the menace of drugs, while encouraging young women to pursue education, leadership, and self-reliance.
The programme was led by organising chairman Keli Gamlin. It concluded with commitment of youth organisations, educational institutions, and civil society to work together for a healthier, empowered, and drug-free society.
