BOLENG, 10 Mar: A legal awareness programme-cum-anti-drugs awareness campaign was held at the Unying Aran Hall here in Siang district by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), in collaboration with the Siang District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), and the Siang District Law Students Union recently to sensitise the people to various mandated schemes and programmes of the National Legal Services Authority and other government welfare schemes that the marginalised people are entitled to.

The programme witnessed the participation of over 530 individuals, including gaon buras and gaon buris from far-flung villages like Kaying, Riga, Kerang, Sipeng, Yibuk, Rasing, Komsing, Mori, etc, besides SHGs, vendors, teachers and students, and members of the public.

In the inaugural session, APSLSA Member Secretary Yomgo Ado highlighted the roles and functions of SLSA and the DLSA, and the rights and entitlement of free legal services for the weaker sections of society.

Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, the Siang SDPO, and Rebo Perging ZPM Nonong Jamoh also addressed the gathering.

Siang JMFC Bido Sora, assistant legal aid defence counsel Michel Tayeng, Pangin retainer lawyer Opang Mize, East Siang DLSA retainer lawyer Sunny Tayeng, and others spoke on women’s protection laws, juvenile justice, consumer protection, tribal rights, drug abuse eradication, FIR and bail procedures, POCSO Act, lok adalat, senior citizens’ rights, fundamental rights and duties, etc, during the programme.
