ITANAGAR, 10 Mar: Forty individuals participated in a training programme on mushroom cultivation technology, organised at the Mushroom Development Centre here on Tuesday by the horticulture department.

The programme was inaugurated by the horticulture director, who emphasised the importance of mushroom cultivation as a viable income-generating activity for farmers, youths, entrepreneurs, and housewives in the state.

During the session, Mushroom Development Officer Yage Pari delivered lectures on the cultivation techniques of oyster, button, and Shiitake mushrooms, highlighting their economic importance and cultivation practices.

Hands-on demonstrations on oyster mushroom cultivation were conducted by horticulture field assistants Yapang Tali, Byabang Janu and Goutam Lomdak, during which the participants were shown practical steps, including substrate preparation, bag filling, spawning, and crop management.

The participants were also given practical exposure to mushroom production units and modern cultivation techniques.

At the end of the session, certificates were distributed to the trainees who attended the programme.

The training programme will continue for another four days in a batch-wise manner, aiming to train a total of 150 participants, including youth, entrepreneurs, SHGs, housewives, and farmers.

The initiative is expected to encourage more people to adopt mushroom cultivation for income generation and nutritional security.
