BORDUMSA, 31 Mar: On the closing day of the weeklong celebration marking the 150th year of Vande Mataram, the Changlang district art and culture department organised a programme at Kherem Birsa village here to honour the unsung heroes of the Anglo-Singpho War, Bom Singpho and Beesa Gaum.

The programme was attended by Bordumsa ADC Suraj Gurung, along with Hydropower EE Jhombom Geiyi, GBs, and members of the public. The event was hosted by Singpho chief Duwa Bisa Zaulung Raj Kumar at his residence, symbolising the community’s deep respect for its historical legacy.

 The programme commenced with a mass singing of Vande Mataram, followed by the unfurling of the national flag.

DACO Dusu D Genda highlighted the various phases of the yearlong Vande Mataram celebration, with special emphasis on the special phase dedicated to Saheedi Diwas.

District Research Officer Debotang Yupang spoke on the legacy and contributions of the Singpho heroes in India’s freedom movement.

As part of the Shaheedi Diwas week, the department also organised several activities, including an inter-college quiz competition, the rendition of Vande Mataram in the local Ponthai Tangsa dialect, and a signature campaign involving women SHGs under the theme ‘Every mark matters’. (DIPRO)
