ITANAGAR, 2 Apr: The Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) authorities have requested the election committee of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) to either complete the entire election process by 5 April or shift the venue to another location to complete the remaining process.
The decision was taken following a coordination meeting involving HoDs, the college coordination committee, and the security committee, among others. It was also decided that all classes and academic activities will resume from 6 April onwards as per the college routine and academic calendar.
Classes at DNGC have remained disrupted since 17 February, when the college was declared as the venue for the AAPSU election. “As per the RGU academic calendar, practical examinations have to be conducted between 1 April and 21 April, 2026. Internal tests have to be conducted before 9 April, 2026. As classes have remained disrupted, extra classes will have to be arranged to compensate for the academic loss and to cover the syllabus, if possible,” read the DNGC order.
The AAPSU election was initially scheduled to be held on 17 February. Later, it was rescheduled, and the election process began on 20 March and was supposed to be completed by 26 March. However, voting has not been completed yet. Repeated violence related to the election process has created a sense of fear on campus. The infrastructure of DNGC has also reportedly been damaged in the violence.
Recently, officials of DNGC wrote to the education commissioner, drawing attention to the “grave situation” arising out of the ongoing election process of the AAPSU. Citing the tense situation and repeated violence on campus, the authorities sought the deployment of additional security.
In the letter, officials of the state’s premier government college stated that the present situation in the institution is wholly incompatible with the dignity, sanctity, and purpose of an educational environment.
Meanwhile, when contacted, chief election commissioner of the AAPSU election committee, Nabam Tamar said that his team will try to wrap up the election-related exercise by 5 April.
