The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) in a welcome move has urged the state government to close down all the schools with zero enrolment in the Nyishi-inhabited areas. The ANSU made the appeal after conducting a survey during which it found 14 schools with zero enrolment in the ICR itself. Even though the ANSU has appealed for closing of schools with zero enrolment in the Nyishi-inhabited schools, the appeal resonates across the state. There are several such schools all over Arunachal with zero enrolment. They are functioning only on paper.
These schools are increasingly becoming a burden on the state exchequer. The teachers posted in these schools are getting salaries without working. This is happening even as many schools across the state are struggling to function due to lack of teachers. The government fund is being wasted. The education department should carry out a survey across the state, so that a correct figure of schools with zero enrolment is found out. After that, the state government should close down all such schools. The existing infrastructure should be used for other purposes.
