AALO, 17 Nov: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday inspected the construction site for the outdoor stadium here in West Siang district, which has been in the news for the last couple of years due to a halt in the construction of the infrastructure.
During the visit, Rijiju was accompanied by Industries & Textile Minister Tumke Bagra, Aalo East MLA Kento Jini, West Siang DC Penga Tato and former minister Doi Ado.
Ado said that sporting activities in the district headquarters here came to a standstill due to the delay in construction of the stadium, whereas many other stadiums sanctioned along with the stadium here (Aalo) have already been completed and are functioning.
The District Bar Association, GPF, AASU and other organizations also met the union minister and appealed to him to take initiative for early completion of the stadium.
It was also informed that Rs 5.48 crore out of the estimated cost of Rs 35 crore have already been paid to the construction agency. The work is being executed by TK Engineering and monitored by the engineering wing of the sports department.
The union minister said he will take up the matter with the appropriate authority.
Later, Rijiju inaugurated the ANM hostel building and assured to look into the single-point memorandum submitted to him to upgrade the ANM school here to a GNM institute. (DIPRO)
