PASIGHAT, 17 May: Due to continuous rainfall in the last two weeks, the water level of the Siang river and its tributaries has been rising constantly, causing flood in downstream localities in Assam.
The heavy and incessant rain over the past two weeks also damaged agriculture and horticulture crops in Siang region and led to water-logging at several places.
The weather station set up at College of Horticulture and Forestry here has recorded 65.5 mm rainfall within 9 rain-days this month.
The rate of rainfall during May 2020 and 2021 were 3.26 mm and 2.94 mm, respectively.
The surging water of Lali and Dikhari rivers entered human habitations in Ramdham Dikhari panchayat in Assam’s Jonai circle and submerged at least 10 villages.
As per the prediction of the MET department, heavy rains are expected to lash Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh till May 20.
