Hard lesson

Even as the state was coming to term with the horrific rape and murder of a 5 year old girl at Lohit district, two more rape case have surfaced in the last few days. An 8 year old girl was raped at Daporijo while a 5 year student was raped by her own teacher at Yingkiong. In all the three rape case the victims are minor and this makes it more tragic. The brutal rape and murder of 5 year old girl at Wakro shocked the whole state. The hurt feeling was so strong that an angry mob lynched the two persons accused of raping and killing the young soul.
The rape of a minor student by her own teacher at Yingkiong is deeply disturbing news. The incident raises some serious questions regarding how schools functions in the state. How could a teacher rape her own minor student in the school and not get caught. Most of the private as well as government schools of Arunachal do not follow the laid down norms. Strict verification of school staffs including teachers is not done. Also most of the schools have not installed CCTV camera which is mandatory as per the CBSE guidelines. State government in particularly education department should direct all the deputy commissioners to check whether schools operating in the state are complying with CBSE guidelines. It is the duty of authority concern to ensure that children get education in the most secure atmosphere. There is a big lesson to learn from the tragic incidents of Yingkiong, Wakro and Daporijo. But the question is have we really learnt something from the three incidents which have shocked our collective conscience.
