JORHAT, 7 Feb: The Assam Rifles (AR) organised a ‘mega ex-servicemen rally’ for veterans and veer naris of the force at the AR garrison here in Assam on 6 February.
The rally, themed ‘We care, we share’, was aimed at reaching out to the veterans and their next of kin from Jorhat, Shivsagar, Charaideo and Dibrugarh districts of Assam, and saw the participation of over 360 veterans and veer naris from the four districts.
AR (North) Inspector General, Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera, who along with 25 Sector (HQ) AR DIG Brig Swarn Singh interacted with the veterans and the veer naris, reaffirmed “the commitment of HQ director general Assam Rifles to ensure their welfare and dignity.”
He also presented wheelchairs, hearing aids and walking sticks to the elderly veterans and veer naris.
The event featured “information stalls” set up for the benefit of the veterans, the AR informed in a release, adding that other highlights of the event were free dental check-ups conducted by the AR’s 6 dental unit and free eye check-ups conducted by doctors from Dibrugarh-based Apeksha Hospital. “Prahiri Life Insurance and the Jorhat SBI also established stalls for benefit of the veterans,” it added.
