Editor,

We, the citizens of Arunachal Pradesh, express our concern over the proposed mandatory bagless day on Saturdays in schools.

While the intention to alleviate academic burden is commendable, implementing it every Saturday would significantly disrupt the regular academic schedule, potentially hampering the learning process.

The frequent disruption of classes may lead to inadequate coverage of the curriculum, ultimately affecting students’ academic performance, particularly in secondary schools where syllabus completion is crucial.

Moreover, extracurricular activities and co-curricular pursuits, essential for holistic development, often get compromised due to time constraints during weekdays. We suggest that bagless days be observed only on one Saturday every month, striking a balance between reducing burden and ensuring academic continuity. This approach would allow students to recharge while minimising disruptions to their academic routine.

We urge policymakers to reconsider the frequency of bagless days and adopt a more pragmatic approach, prioritising academic objectives while promoting student wellbeing.
