DOIMUKH, 31 Jan: As part of the National Road Safety Month (1 January to 31 January), a road safety awareness programme was conducted on Friday near the Dree ground along NH 415 by the Papum Pare District Road Safety Committee, in collaboration with the Itanagar Road Safety Committee.
The programme witnessed active participation of host departments, including the district transport office (DTO), district medical offices (DMO) of the ICR and Yupia, the Naharlagun police, the traffic police of the ICR and Papum Pare, the DDSEs of the ICR and Yupia, and the Naharlagun highway division. The collective effort aimed at spreading awareness among road users on various aspects of road safety.
During the campaign, road users were sensitised to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and were informed about the dos and don’ts, and general road safety awareness. Health check-up of commercial vehicles’ drivers was also carried out.
Other highlights of the day included awareness generation through interaction with road users and distribution of pamphlets, and enforcement action against traffic violations, with booking of offenders.
As a part of the enforcement, three cases of seat belt violations, 40 cases of defective number plates, 10 cases of dark film removal, 50 cases of riding without helmet, five cases of underage driving, and two cases of overloaded vehicles were registered.
As many as 120 drivers of commercial vehicles underwent medical check-up, including eye screening and blood pressure checks. (DIPRO)
