ROING, May 24: The lifeless body of eight-year-old Milan Sarkar was discovered at around 9 am on Wednesday morning at Cheta Nallah here.
The police speculate that the young boy, who was playing with his friends in the area, may have tried to get home when it suddenly started to rain heavily at around 7.30 am.
“However, the wooden plank over the open drainage might have been washed away by the overflowing water in the drainage, and the boy, without knowing, might have tried to cross the drain. He might have fallen into the drain and washed away to about 70 metres from the accident site, where his body was recovered along with the wooden plank. He had injury marks on his head,” informed OC Satyajit Paul.
According to sources in the Lower Dibang Valley district hospital here, the death was caused due to drowning. A postmortem was also conducted at the district hospital by Dr O Mega.
OC Paul informed that the investigation is going on.
In September 2015, a 12-year-old boy had met with the same fate after he fell into the open drainage near the post office which was overflowing with rainwater after a sudden heavy rain.
