During his recent visit to state, the vice president of India M Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone for septage management system (SMS) and the storm water drainage system (SWDS) for Itanagar under the AMRUT scheme. The estimated cost of projects for SMS and SWDS are Rs 16.59 crore and Rs 14.53 crore respectively. Both the projects are of immense importance for state capital as it aims at improving the urban infrastructure related to drainage system, and improving the urban landscape. At present capital complex region is an urban chaos. Lack of proper planning has turned twin town of Itanagar and Naharlagun into an mess.
Come monsoon the roads of capital complex including highways, colonies, sectors and arterial are flooded due to lack of proper drainage system. Besides posing threat to the motorists, the overflowing of drains can cause serious health hazard. Therefore storm water drainage system and septage management system projects being initiated under AMRUT scheme are of massive importance. State government in particularly the implementing department should ensure that project is properly implemented, so that it truly benefits the citizens of capital complex. Quality should not be compromised and projects should be strictly monitored by the concern authorities. With Itanagar coming under smart city project, more capital centric schemes are expected to be launched in future. Onus lies with state government to ensure that these projects which are of national importance are properly implemented. The government fund should not be allowed to misuse by nexus of corrupt politicians and govt officials.
