ITANAGAR, Jun 29: Five karatekas from Arunachal Pradesh will represent the country at the ‘WKF Karate 1 Youth World Cup and Training Camp’ to be held at Umag, Croatia, from 2 to 8 July.
Arunachal Karate Association (AKA) technical director S Deben Sharma has been appointed as the coach for the participating Indian team.
The karatekas who have been selected from the state are Abab Sangdo, Doni Yangfo, Atum Sono, Mojum Dodum, and Yana Bagang.
While Abab, Doni and Sono will play in the junior category (kumite), Mojum and Yana will participate in the Under-21 boys’ and girls’ kumite, respectively.
The Indian contingent, accompanied by Karate Association of India vice president Likha Tara, will be leaving for Croatia on Saturday.
Further, the trio of Mesom Singhi, Goda Asha and Bamang Yamu has been selected to represent the country at the 15th AKF Senior Karate Championship to be held from 10 to 14 July at Amman, Jordan.
The KAI has selected them based on their gold medal-winning performances in the Senior National Karate Championship this year.
The senior karate championship, conducted by the AKF, is the top karate event in Asia.
AKA treasurer Tai Hipik has been appointed as the Indian coach for the upcoming event.
