APCC demands thorough probe in graft case

ITANAGAR, Aug 25: Terming the arrest of EAC Olik Taring for his alleged involvement in illegal appointments during his tenure as chief municipal executive officer of the Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) a welcome move, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Saturday demanded a thorough investigation by the SIC into the case to bring all those who are guilty to book.
“This is the tip of the iceberg as there was no sanctioned post, except that the file was moved to finance department but the posts were not approved/created by the state government.
Thus, the role of higher-ups cannot be ruled out in this multi-crore scam,” APCC president Takam Sanjoy said in a release.
He said Taring “should not be made a scapegoat in the case to shield other higher-ups involved in it.
“There were also allegations of siphoning off of crores of fund granted by the state government to the IMC, and groups of councillors had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister in this connection, as highlighted in the local media,” the APCC chief said.
The party appreciated the SIC officers for their investigation in the illegal appointment case.
