NIRJULI, Mar 28: A mock drill on steps to be taken during an earthquake (measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale) was staged here in Papum Pare district on Thursday.
During the drill, an artificial earthquake scenario was created, with six persons supposedly trapped in a collapsed building. The NDRF rescue team demonstrated how to rescue victims from a collapsed house, and from a high building in case of fire or other emergency. They also gave the ‘victims’ first aid, capital complex DDMO Moromi Dodum Sonam said.
“These exercises ensure prompt response of all stakeholders in a district, and such frequent mock drills also make the district’s response system more effective and result-oriented at the time of actual disaster,” 12 Bn NDRF Commandant Umesh Kumar Thapliyal said.
FO DM (HQ) Beru Dulom lauded the role of the stakeholders, including the Nirjuli Market Welfare Committee (NMWC), in bringing the whole business community to participate in the exercise.
The drill was organized jointly by the capital complex administration, the NDRF, the Nirjuli police station, the Naharlagun fire and emergency service, paramedics from Tago Memorial Hospital here, and the NMWC. (DIPRO)
