ZIRO, Jul 10: A meeting of all the members of the Lower Subansiri district steering committee on Food Safety was held in the office of the Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner on Wednesday to review the status of implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act of India (FSSAI) in the district.
Chairing the meet, Additional Deputy Commissioner Gombu Tsering called on all stakeholders to work together for successful implementation of the FSSAI “as it is meant to safeguard the health of the consumers.”
He also advocated for periodical monitoring by a team comprising of magistrate and police officers in addition to those from the departments concerned.
Earlier, District Medical Officer cum Designated Officer Dr Tage Kanno welcomed the members to the meeting and informed that the number of food business operators (FBOs) obtaining license and registering themselves have increased in the past few years.
In addition, food vendors during festivals and fairs are also registering themselves under the FSSAI, he informed.
Food Safety Officer Tarak Tatek briefed about the various provisions under the Act and urged the concerned department for its cooperation in effective implementation.
The members decided that the food license would be made mandatory pre-requisite to grant trading license, excise license or drug license in the district.
Representatives from the Old Ziro Market Welfare Committee, Hapoli Market Welfare Committee, Tax & Excise Department, Police Department and district administration attended the meeting.
