ZIRO, Jul 10: A week long plantation drive was organised by the Hapoli Forest Division with the theme ‘Lets Green the Valley’ on the occasion of the 70th Vana Mahotsav here in Lower Subansiri district recently.
Over 200 volunteers from the All Apatani Gaon Burah/ Buri Association, Dutta Pyapung Conservation Club, Ngunu Ziro and Siikhe Multipurpose Cooperative Society participated in the drive which began from Siikhe Artificial Lake.
Over 350 saplings were planted all around the periphery of the lake.
Also, 350 cherry saplings were planted for village beautification in the approach roads by volunteers from All Hija Youth Association at Hija village, All Hong Youth Association at Hong village & Biodiversity Management Committee, Niitii at Hanoko.
RFO Tage Hanya informed that 4,500 seedlings were also distributed to various educational institutions, government offices and general public to mark the celebration.
In Jairampur, staff of RK Mossang Memorial Society planted various saplings of neem, jackfruit, litchi, kadam etc alongside the Jairampur to Kharsang national highway on 3 July last to mark Van Mahotsav.
