NAMSING, Aug 8: The East Siang district health department and the Adi Baane Kebang (Apex) have launched an awareness campaign on Japanese encephalitis (JE) and malaria.
Addressing the camp held here in Mebo subdivision on Wednesday, DMO Dr Kaling Dai advised the villagers to keep their surroundings clean and adopt preventive measures to destroy mosquito breeding sites.
Informing that the JE pathogen (virus) is transmitted from infected pigs, ducks and domestic beasts by the Culex mosquito, the DMO advised the people to use mosquito nets and prevent the spread of the disease.
District Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme Officer Dr Keni Lego also spoke.
As per district health department sources, more than 20 JE positive cases, besides a number of patients having acute encephalitic syndrome have been detected so far. The health department is, however, making all-out efforts to control further outbreak of vector-borne diseases.
