Time for IMC to prove itself

Altogether 27 kms of roads will be constructed under the ‘smart city’ project in the capital complex. This was informed by an official of the Itanagar municipal council (IMC) on Sunday when local MLA Techi Kaso was inspecting the 2.50 km-long cement concrete (CC) road from Lobi Panchali to Lobi, constructed under the ‘Itanagar smart city’ project. This is massive news and has the potential to change the face of the capital complex. Most of the sector and colony roads of capital are in a pathetic condition. In the last few years it has seen some improvement with the construction of CC roads, but still much is needed.
These CC roads are constructed with the claim that they have a lifespan of at least 20 years. But most of the CC roads constructed in the capital complex have deteriorated within a span of three years. The work quality is very poor. Therefore the proposed 27 km road to be constructed under the ‘smart city’ project should be strictly monitored, so that quality is not compromised with. The onus lies with the IMC in this regard. In the short span since it came into existence, the IMC has been in the news only for the wrong reasons. Allegations of corruption and poor performance have hurt the image of the IMC. It is time for them to make redemption by constructing world-class roads under the ‘smart city’ project. If they fail this time too, the people of the capital complex will lose trust in them. Now it is upto the IMC to prove itself and win back the trust of the capital’s denizens.
