ITANAGAR, Oct 16: The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) will organize an exclusive programme in Bangladesh and Myanar to promote various production of North East,particularly agro based during November and December in association with the Embassy of India in Dhaka and Yangon,
The event in Bangladesh is proposed to be held in the first week of December in Dhaka and Sylhet and in Myanmar is proposed to be held in the month of November.
APEDA, an apex organization under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, is mandated with the responsibility for Promotion and Development of the export of various agro products.
APEDA’s export basket includes fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, pickles, chutneys, guar gum, poultry, meat and dairy products, confectionery, cut flowers, food grains, aromatic plants, Basmati Rice and Indian Long Grain Rice and other Indian delicacies.
The North Eastern Region of India comprising eight states namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim which is endowed with diverse agro- climatic conditions which are conducive for cultivation of various kinds of horticultural crops. The location of the region is geopolitically important as it shares international boundaries with China and Bhutan , Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh. This strategic location of NER makes it the potential hub for export of horticultural produce to neighbouring countries.
