St Claret College wins Press Day debate competition
ITANAGAR, Nov 17: The maiden V Ravindran Excellence in Journalism Award, instituted by the Arunachal Press Club, Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist, Arunachal Electronic Media Association were won by Jun Taki of Eastern Sentinel for his investigative reporting while Talar Yuto of Arunachal Pioneer was awarded for human interest story and Manoj Singh of Arunachal Front for reports on political & good governance. Singh also won the face of the year award.
In electronic media category Itanagar News’s Migom Toko won the award in human interest category, Ajay Roy was recognized for video journalism while Irani Sonowal of News 18 was awarded in politics & governance category.
The state media also handed out the Unsung Heroes awards which were given to United Charity’s Nabam Thomas, Anil Pamgu, Penya Laji, Yasum Sonam Tara, Taru Nani and Sange Droma in recognition of the NGO’s contributions to the society. The NGO has been giving tuitions to the less priveiliged school children and helping the cancer patients. Toko Tagam, a progressive horticulture farmer was also felicitated.
Meanwhile, St Claret College has won the CM’s running trophy-state level debate competition organized to mark the National Press Day.
Charu Assum, a first semester BA student speaking against the motion on the topic “Social Media substituting Mainstream Media” won the first prize while Songio Taja, a 3rd semester of the mass communication of the same college won the second place.
The debate saw the participation of five colleges including Rajiv Gandhi University.
Indian Forest Service officer Koj Rinya was moderator while the judges were DMO, Lower Subansiri Dr Tage Kano, Lower Subansiri DIPRO Ramar Jokik and Arunachal Times’ Associate Editor Tongam Rina.
Meanwhile, the house with some 700 participants overwhelmingly voted that the social media cannot substitute traditional media.
The event was jointly organized by the Arunachal Press Club, Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist, Arunachal Electronic Media Association and the Department of the IPR, govt of Arunachal Pradesh.
