LONGDING/KHONSA, Dec 21: The Longding and Khonsa battalions of the security forces launched two operations and apprehended three hardcore NSCN(U) militants and one hardcore NSCN(K) operative on the evening of 20 December, according to a release issued by the defence PRO based in Kohima (Nagaland).
Based on information that NSCN militants were trying to terrorize and extort money from Sonari town, personnel of the Longding battalion set a trap for the militants and apprehended self-styled Private Jaichok, self-styled Lance Corporal Panyam Wangjen, and Wangpan Wangsa of the NSCN(U) during the act of extortion.
Two pistols with live ammunition, opium, an extortion note, a paper with extortion details, several mobile phones, and other incriminating evidence were recovered from their possession.
During spot interrogation the militants admitted their allegiance to the NSCN(U), and also admitted that they had been involved in extortion activities for the last six months, the release said.
In a similar operation in Khonsa town, self-styled Private Kammo Kanglom of the NSCN(K) was apprehended while carrying out extortion with a pistol, live ammunition, opium, and an extortion note.
The militant admitted his allegiance to the NSCN(K) and having been involved in extortion activities in the area, the release added.
