The decision of the government of Arunachal to make divisional commissioner office of western and eastern zone functional will immensely benefit the people of state. With divisional commissioner west office already made functional at Yachuli, the state government seems intent to make divisional commissioner east functional immediately. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein held a meeting in this regard on Thursday and stressed on the early shifting of chief engineer’s office of various works department under eastern division to the designated headquarter within December month.
While the main office of divisional commissioner east will be based in Namsai, the engineering departments will have offices in Miao, Tezu, and Pasighat respectively. The divisional commissioner will have certain financial power and this will improve the governance. At present the majority of engineering departments under eastern division are based in capital complex and it becomes very difficult for the people of eastern area to visit Itanagar even for minor work. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein who is playing an important role in ensuring early shifting of the office of divisional commissioner and other works department to the eastern belt deserves appreciation for it. For years none of the politicians made any sincere effort to make divisional commissioner office functional in true sense. It was only after Mein became Deputy Chief Minister that process for it was fast-tracked. Especially for the people of eastern Arunachal, the move to make divisional commissioner office functional will make life much better.
