BOMDILA, Jan 21: Home Minister Kumar Waii along with RWD Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi inaugurated the badminton double court at the multi-indoor sports club here in West Kameng district last Friday.
He also declared open the Late Tonglang Khonjuju Memorial Tournament being held to commemorate the 69th Republic Day celebration.
In his address, Waii informed that in order to promote indoor games, particularly badminton, in the state, a coach would be sent to the districts on a three-month rotation basis very soon to impart basic training to the players.
He also called upon the youths to take up sports activities for better health and sound mind.
MLA Jambey Tashi called for catching the players young and providing them with all the required facilities and training in order to bring the best out of them for national and international levels.
A total of 155 players from various sporting clubs of the district will be vying for the top honours in the badminton, table tennis and billiards competition in the tournament which is sponsored by Aju Khonjuju in memory of his father, late Tonglang Khonjuju.
The winners of the various categories will be felicitated on Republic Day.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner Dr Sonal Swaroop and other government officers attended the inaugural function. (DIPRO)
