ITANAGAR, Feb 23: The Khonsa Block ZPM Lengang Lowang was killed in a tragic road accident this morning around 3.30 am near Pehelwan More between Itanagar and Naharlagun.
Lowang was on his way to Naharlagun when his ill fated Mahindra Scorpio lost control and fell into gorge. He reportedly died on the spot.
The Itanagar police sources informed that he was alone at the time of accident. Lowang was the Chief of the Lapnan village. He was known for his work towards preserving Nocte Indigenous culture apart from his regular Panchayat duties. Meanwhile several prominent politicians of Tirap district including Advisor to CM Wanglin Lowangdong, Minister Agriculture Wangki Lowang, MLA Khonsa West Tirong Aboh, 55-Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin, ZPC Sontung Bangsia and all ZPMs of Tirap district have mourned his untimely demise. Deputy Commissioner of Tirap PN Thungon has termed his death as irreparable loss to the people of district.
Late Lengang Lowang left behind his wife, younger sister and mother. His body is being brought to his native village Lapnan after performing the required formalities at Tomo Riba Institute of Medical Science, Naharlagun.(DIPRO with input from ATNS)
