AALO, Mar 18: The West Siang District Students’ Union (WSDSU) organized a plantation and cleanliness drive in and around Aalo Township from 15-17 March.
A procession themed “Green Aalo, Clean Aalo” was also taken out from the general ground to the old market here on the last day to raise public awareness on the importance of trees in maintaining the quality of environment in urban places and keeping the township neat and clean.
Divisional Forest Officer of Aalo Division, Abhinav Kumar spoke of the need to preserve the greeneries and rich biodiversity of the district for a healthy and eco-friendly environment.
The WSDSU also gave a facelift to the Welcome Gate of Aalo at Sipu bridge point and cleared all the mud from Sipu Bridge. The students’ union urged the Power department to fit lights in the gate to make it easier to pass through during night time.
Deputy Director of Urban Development and Housing, Helley Welly, DMO Dr Nyage Geyi and ACF Ranphoa Ngoaba also attended the awareness meet.
The three-day plantation and cleanliness drive was joined by the NEFTU University, DPDC Kamba, SFS College Yeggo, KKSU and UBSU. (DIPRO)
