NAHARLAGUN, May 29: Arunachal Sport Climbing Association (ASCA) president Sikka Gapak on Tuesday congratulated mountaineers Kishon Tekseng and Taka Tamut on their successful expedition to Mount Everest.
Tekseng and Tamut are members of the ASCA.
The duo scaled the world’s highest peak on 24 May after a gruelling 13-hour nonstop climb from Camp IV – the last camp in South Col, in the area known as the ‘death zone’ – without the help of Sherpa guides.
Tekseng also climbed to Camp IV (26,000 ft) without supplementary oxygen.
Gapak praised the team’s resilience and persistence to defy geographical and environmental challenges and hardships, and expressed hope that youngsters would be inspired by the duo’s accomplishment.
Tekseng had represented the state as coach at the NE sport climbing competition in Guwahati (Assam) in March this year.
