NAMSAI, Jun 9: Namsai ADC Vijay Talukdar appealed to the students of the Pali language course at the Arunachal University of Studies (AUS) here to “share their knowledge and multiply their efforts to promote the ancient language.”
Addressing the students during a certificate distribution ceremony held at the university campus on Saturday, the ADC lauded the move to introduce the ‘Revival of Tai Khamti Script’ programme, which is a joint initiative of the AUS and the Tai Khamti Heritage & Literary Society.
The university’s Indic & Buddhist Studies Director Ven A Pannasara, said “the only way to connect with one’s old heritage is to revive the languages and literatures written by one’s forefathers in the ancient times.”
AUS Pro-Chancellor Vishva Lochan in his address announced the Lachit Borphukan Scholarship Scheme for students belonging to the North East region who wish to pursue NCTE-approved diploma course in elementary education with Revival of Tai Khamti Language Script as the elective subject.
The scheme has a scholarship support of Rs 32,000 per year from the World Education Mission.
